1. Choose and enroll in a Designated Learning Institution (DLI)

First, you have to decide where and which course you want to study. 

Provinces and territories designate different colleges/universities to enroll international students. These institutions are known as Designated Learning Institutions (DLI). Once you have selected a program and college of interest, it’s time to apply.

2. Ensure you meet the eligibility requirements

The application for a study permit will also require that you meet other eligibility requirements, aside from the acceptance letter from a DLI.

3. Get your documents in order

The following documents are required for the application for a study permit:

  • Letter of acceptance from the College
  • Proof of identity
  • Proof of financial support
  • Letter of explanation

4. Apply for Study Permit

Fill out the online application or apply on paper, furnish all documentation, and pay your application fees. Fees include application processing costs and a biometric fee. Biometrics includes your fingerprints and a digital photograph. Other fees may apply for a police certificate or medical exam based on your specific application.

5. Arrive in Canada

It is important to get your basic necessities set up as soon as you arrive in Canada so you are ready for the new college year.
